A Letter from Tony

Dear Friend:
In 2002, I ran for the office of Cook County Commissioner because I felt the suburbs needed a representative on the Cook County Board of Commissioners who stood for lower taxes, smaller and more efficient government, the elimination of corruption and truly had the best interests of the taxpayers in mind at all times.

In 2006, I ran for Cook County Board President because I felt that Cook County residents and taxpayers were not properly represented. Even though we were narrowly defeated, our message of reform resounded throughout Cook County.

Today, I continue to fight for Cook County taxpayers and residents. I have consistently stood up to Todd Stroger and led the charge to roll back his ill-advised and unnecessary sales tax increase.

And that’s the very reason Stroger and his friends, the Mayors of Cicero and Melrose Park, have recruited both Democratic and Republican candidates to defeat my re-election bid.

Now, more than ever, we need a commissioner who will stand up to corrupt political insiders.

As commissioner, I am committed to reforming Cook County government. Over the last year we have made progress towards that goal.

The county passed my ordinance to create an online check registry so that all county expenditures will be available for viewing via the internet.

Additionally, we were recently able to override Todd Stroger’s veto and decrease the Cook County Sales Tax. It took over one year and four votes to roll back the highest sales tax in the nation, but we did it!

None of our accomplishments have been easy. And none will be possible if we do not win re-election in 2010. The political insiders I have opposed are hungry for my commissioner’s seat—and will spend hundreds of thousands (if not millions) to take it.

By contributing to my campaign you can help ensure that I continue to serve as your commissioner.
Thank you for your consideration.

Tony Peraica
