Troublemakers Disrupt Lyons GOP Caucus - Then Call Newspapers

Well, it seems some inactive/non-dues paying residents showed up at this week’s Lyons Township Republican Caucus meeting wanting to cast votes.  One problem:  the organization’s rules (in place for years) stipulated that you have to be a dues-paying member in order to cast a vote.

Remember - this isn’t an open election at polling places.  It’s a caucus for the Township Republican Organization.

The dues?  A whopping $25.

Well, these residents - hilariously claiming that this was a “poll tax” - became unruly, the police were called, they left, and then they called the newspapers.  (And, of course, in order to “tweak” at Tony Peraica, the Chicago Tribune’s fair and balanced Hal Dardick wrote a story on this most important of county issues.)

Nevermind the fact that these residents were inactive in the organization, didn’t pay their dues, and hadn’t shown up at a meeting in years.

Dardick, of course, didn’t mention that one of the residents - Michael LaPidus - ran against Peraica for Committeeman in 2006 with the help of indicted political insider Ed “Fast Eddie” Vrdolyak.  If you don’t believe us - check the state election report that shows his $1,000 contribution from Mr. Vrdolyak.

You’ll also notice that LaPidus’ campaign committee is still open.  Maybe he’s going to take another run at Peraica?

Wouldn’t surprise us.  And this nice little stunt - with the help of Hal Dardick - is a nice little way to help his campaign fortunes.

What a joke.

  2. So its totally legal to charge people to participate in democracy? Caucus or election its wrong, tony. Some republicans buy into your act but some know its a lie.

  4. There was no charge to participate in the caucus. You had to be member of the organization which these troublemakers were NOT. They were not there to participate, only to start trouble. Also, they were allowed to stay and participate and only were asked to leave after yelling profanity to the lady working the front door. It is important to mention that the three men who started all the trouble actually supported Todd Stroger in 2006.

[...] I just wanted to provide a very quick update on the frivolous lawsuit that was filed against the Lyons Township GOP by the troublemakers who disrupted our caucus several weeks ago. [...]

[...] And we’ve already seen how the Vrdolyak-supported LaPidus has already begun to stir up trouble. [...]
